Special Olympics was founded in 1971 on the belief that people with intellectual disabilities can, with proper instruction and encouragement, learn, enjoy and benefit from participation in individual and team sports. Through the power of sports, people with intellectual disabilities discover new strengths and abilities, skills and success. Our athletes find joy, confidence, and fulfillment — on the playing field and in life. They also inspire people in their communities and elsewhere to open their hearts to a wider world of human talents and potential.
This past year has been challenging for Special Olympics Idaho and our athletes. It has been difficult to host many of our typical fundraisers, and we have explored new ways to reach out to our athletes and donors during this time. We have put all our efforts behind this raffle and have increased the prize package to include some really great prizes benefiting more ticket purchasers. Idaho has always supported Special Olympics, and with this raffle, and our Gem State behind us, we can return to our typical activities and programs. We encourage you to purchase your tickets early and tell your friends and family to help spread the word. Thanks to everyone for their continued support and good luck in the raffle!
Special Olympics Idaho is a nonprofit organization that empowers individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition, and we couldn't do it without our generous supporters. When you purchase a ticket for the raffle, you are helping Special Olympics Idaho continue to make a difference.
In Special Olympics, the athletes are the heart of the movement. The athletes not only have the opportunity to develop physical fitness and become competitive athletes, but through our support programs such as Athlete Leadership, Unified Sports and Healthy Athletes they gain the knowledge and resources to live a healthy lifestyle and evolve as leaders and important members of society.
At no cost to any athletes to join or participate, Special Olympics Idaho offers training and competition opportunities in Olympic-type sports, advocacy resources, health screenings and so much more for athletes 8 years or older. No matter what your ability level, you can benefit from Special Olympics. And no matter what your interest, there is a sport for you. There is no charge to participate in Special Olympics.
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.
Special Olympics Idaho's (IDSO) goal is to reach and empower the over 54,000 Idahoans with intellectual disabilities to be healthy, productive, and respected members of society through IDSO's year-round sports training, competitions, and support programs.
